Why are we less healthy than our forefathers?

Greetings Family,

Well, we can officially say “that’s a wrap” to the 2025 calving season here at The No Lack Farm!

This little bull calf that we are calling “T-Bone is our last calf and was born to one of our best momma cows named “Angel”. He is very healthy, and a great-looking calf. I can’t wait to see what he matures into!

Angel and T-Bone

You know, it seems like everyone today is trying to find the ultimate performance hack for life. But most of the time, the results are short lived, if they have life at all.

There are a lot of snake oil salesmen out there, so buyers beware!

Have we every stopped to consider the old-timers out there and those that came before us?

My neighbor has been farming his whole life baring his time in the military. He is now in his late 70’s and can work circles around most people in their 20’s I know!

How was the health and vitality of our forefathers so much better than ours?

How did our grandfathers stay lean eating white bread and drinking whole milk, while you gain weight on keto and intermittent fasting.

Our grandfather's generation didn't need fitness apps.

They didn't count macros or calories.

Yet we do and obesity has tripled from (13% vs 40.3% today).

So, what has changed in the last 50 years?
Here's what changed (and what we can do to help fix it):

We have to start with the sober realization that our environment has become metabolically toxic.

What do I mean by that? Well...

·         Your sleep has become fragmented by blue light from LED bulbs, and the various “screens” we watch.
·         Your average daily movement has dropped from 8+ hours to approximately 2 hours daily.
·         There are approximately 80,000+ synthetic chemicals that have been added to products used every day, including your food.

And your “food” goes from farms to factories and everything is processed.

Because of this our mitochondria (cellular power plants) can't keep up.

And the result? Your body stores everything as fat instead of burning it for energy.

Here is how we begin to undo the damage:

1.) Live by the sun!
→ No screens 1 hour before bed.
→ 15 minutes morning sunlight daily.

→ 15 minutes afternoon sun as it is setting.
→ Same wake time every day (even weekends).

Your grandfather's rhythm matched the sun, not his phone.

And this is very important in rejuvenating our Circadian Rhythm.

The circadian rhythm is the body's natural, internal process that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and other biological processes over a 24-hour period. It's often referred to as the body's internal clock, and it influences when we feel sleepy and when we feel alert, as well as other functions like hormone release, digestion, and body temperature.

2.) Move like humans are supposed to.
→ Park further from the door rather than circling the parking lot for ten minutes to be close to the door.
→ Take stairs like elevators don't exist.
→ Walk 10k+ steps per day (your biology loves it)

Sitting 8+ hours daily shuts down fat-burning enzymes.

Also, sedentary lifestyles are also associated with an increased risk of joint dysfunction and pain, particularly osteoarthritis.

3.) Eat food, not “food products”.
→ Choose foods with 5 ingredients or less.
→ Shop the perimeter of the grocery store first...... you know, where all the real food is.
→ Cook with butter, olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil or ghee and animal fats.

Processed foods and seed oils cause inflammation your grandfather never faced.

4.) Stay active during awake hours.
→ Take calls outside when possible.
→ Use "dead time" for movement and production, not scrolling on your phone or watching TV.
→ Move for 2 minutes every hour (phone alarm at :50)

Your grandfather was accidentally active all day by way of life.

5.) Avoid the metabolic disruptors.
→ Request olive oil or butter at restaurants.
→ Glass bottles over plastic (BPA mimics estrogen).
→ Turn off WiFi and Bluetooth signals at night (EMF disrupts cellular repair).

Your grandfather never faced these hormone-disrupting chemicals or frequencies.

Here's what I see happening:
People spend thousands on biohacking gadgets while drinking coffee from plastic or Styrofoam cups.
They buy organic food but cook it in highly refined seed oils.
They track their sleep but check emails until midnight.

What if you just lived more like your grandfather did?
Sunlight in the morning. Real food at regular times.
Movement throughout the day. Rest when it's dark.

Oh, and put down the sugary drinks and try some water! Non-fluoridated of course 😉.

Maybe this was for you or maybe you know someone in need of this advice. Anyhow, I was compelled to write it, so I hope it is of help to someone!

Until next time, stay strong in your faith, love your family, and support your local community farmers!

Kevin
